Phase One of CAE’s Checkpoint Expansion Project Now Open

Oct 21, 2025

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is excited to announce the completion of phase one of its ongoing checkpoint expansion project.
The most notable change for passengers will be the updated exit route that now directs guests through automatic double doors. This updated system allows for an overall more secure exit lane. Additionally, travelers can now enjoy new amenity rooms after passing through the security checkpoint. The business center, interfaith and meditation room, and sensory room were all designed to enhance the passengers experience while in the airport.
“We are so pleased with how the first phase of this multi-phase project turned out and look forward to welcoming our passengers into these spaces while they are in the airport,” said Interim President & CEO/CFO, Gregg Hornsby. “We’ve been intentional in our planning and design process to ensure we’re creating an environment that accessible for everyone, useful and thoughtful and I think we hit the nail on the head with this part of the expansion.”
In addition to these latest amenity rooms, CAE also recently opened a lactation room, a pet relief facility and a family restroom equipped with an adult changing table. All these resources are after TSA checkpoint and conveniently located downstairs under the Food Court. The addition of these spaces supports CAE’s ongoing accessibility efforts and helps ensure all passengers can continue to travel with ease.
The remaining phases of the expansion project will continue through the end of November and are currently on track to be completed and open to the public before the holidays.
